Hello Quaggy Community

I’m thrilled to share the exciting developments from our Food Project department at Quaggy Development Trust, where I serve as the Food Project Coordinator. Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of undergoing Healthy Eating Training, a qualification that has added a new layer to our community initiatives.

Enhancing Healthy Eating Training: Already passionate about nutrition and healthy eating, the Healthy Eating Training has been an enriching addition to support the choices I make and share with our wonderful community. This qualification has deepened my understanding of crafting nutritious and balanced meals, reinforcing my commitment to promoting a healthier lifestyle for everyone in our community. I’m excited to blend my existing knowledge with these new insights, creating a stronger foundation for the food choices we encourage in our cooking classes and community initiatives.

Cooking Classes for All Ages: One of the highlights of our food project is the weekly Cooking Classes designed for the local community. Our focus is not just on teaching delicious recipes but also on promoting healthier options. We delve into the art of reducing salt, sugar, and saturated fats while maintaining the rich flavours in our dishes.

But it doesn’t stop there! We believe in cultivating healthy habits from a young age. That’s why we extend our cooking classes to the Early Years children in our community. By instilling the importance of making informed food choices early on, we hope to set the foundation for a lifetime of well-being.

From Plot to Plate: At Quaggy, we’ve taken a holistic approach to healthy eating by establishing our very own allotments. These plots of goodness yield a variety of in-season vegetables. The best part? These fresh, locally grown vegetables find their way into our cooking classes, adding a farm-to-table dimension to our community’s culinary journey.

The Joy of Community Connection: More than just cooking, our food project is about fostering community connections. As we gather around to prepare and share meals, we’re building a network of individuals committed to healthier living. The joy of cooking together strengthens our bonds and promotes a shared understanding of the significance of mindful eating.

Looking Ahead: This journey in healthy eating is an ongoing adventure, and I’m eager to see how our community continues to flourish. My commitment as the Food Project Coordinator is to provide ongoing support, new and exciting recipes, and a space where everyone feels empowered to make nutritious choices.

I invite you all to join us on this wholesome adventure in nourishing our community. Let’s savour the taste of good health together! Stay well,

Maria Miguel
